Our Summer Abroad

This summer three members of the David Sweet DDS team traveled to San Raimundo, Guatemala. This area of Guatemala is severely impoverished and the people struggle with everyday necessities. Many of these residents go years without basic medical or dental care. Dr. David Sweet, Judy Lemley-Guffey, and Shelly Gazette, joined together with a group of other medical professionals to provide these residents much needed care. Thanks to Benco Dental Supply and Midwest Dental Equipment, the team was able to provide materials for standard hygiene and routine healthcare.

The team witnessed the change of quality of life in hundreds they served. Many patients had such extreme neglect of their teeth that they would experience physical pain in their mouths and even severe psychological damage of deep embarrassment, shrouding their faces as they walk in public. Working alongside translators, the dental team performed tasks ranging from cleanings to x-rays.

This was Dr. Sweet’s 8th trip to aid the Guatemalans. For Judy Lemley-Guffey, her second deployment; and the first time for Shelly Gazette. David Sweet DDS is blessed to have a team with servants’ hearts willing to be the change this world desperately needs.
